You are now in what was the beating heart of Fort Belvedere. On the concrete block in the center of the room was a power generator fueled by petrol. This internal power plant supplied the electricity needed for the Fort’s interior and exterior lighting system. The Fort’s electrical grid enabled soldiers to both navigate its underground tunnel system and to monitor the Fort’s above ground surroundings in darkness and conditions of poor visibility. The generator also powered the Fort’s telephone system and ran the pumps that ensured the delivery of fresh water inside the fort. Last but not least, the generator powered Fort Belvedere’s air ventilation system, essential for life inside the fort during wartime. The reinforced concrete walls of the power plant were further armored with heavy steel plates once the Great War began and its windows were covered with sandbags in hopes of cushioning the blows from enemy bombardment.
When you exit to the corridor, turn and continue left, towards the officers' room, whose entrance will also be found on the left of the main corridor.
