Palazzo Liviano is named after the great Roman historian Livy, who was born in Padua.
In the lobby, you should be able to see a statue that remembers him… it is a rather large work by artist Arturo Martini, the same author of the Palinuro exhibited in Palazzo del Bo.
In your opinion, if the statue came to life, how tall would Livy be?
The building, which today houses some departments related to cultural heritage, was commissioned by the rector Carlo Anti and designed in the style of the time by Gio Ponti, who also took care of benches, desks, chairs and hangers, just as he had done at Palazzo del Bo.
The large fresco in the lobby intended to highlight the continuity between Roman and modern culture. It was entrusted to Massimo Campigli, who decided to represent archeology as the bedrock of Italian culture, the heritage of scholars but equally of ordinary people.
