It was an arm, precisely that of Juno, to bring this sculptural group back to Italy and to Guidonia Montecélio. The work depicts the three patron deities of Rome: Jupiter, his wife Juno and his daughter Minerva, together with symbolic animals.
The statues were actually found on the black market for artworks shortly after they brought to light. It was only thanks to a fragment lost during the illegal excavation that it was possible to prove they were stolen from their original setting.
Minerva and her owl are carved in fine Luni marble; Jupiter, father of the gods, most likely also held a sceptre and thunderbolt, with eagle; veiled Juno is portrayed with a peacock.
