The setting is Làvello, in the Vùlture Melfese district, an area of plateaus, woods and lakes, close to the Puglia border.
An area where different ethnic groups have travelled and met since ancient times. In the 1980s, archaeologists digging here found a monumental chamber tomb almost by chance.
The tomb contained two male bodies that had been laid to rest one next to the other but a century apart. Next to them, a hundred objects from two distinct sets of tomb furnishings. The items are very refined, worthy of these two princes.
Full suits of armour, spears, horse tack, vases of different shapes. All symbols of an elevated social status.
The archaeologist of today knows these findings prove Lavello had contacts with Rome and with Italic peoples, which changed the ways local aristocracies represented themselves.
