The Forest - Diorama

I will tell you about the different ecosystems of Valtellina.

Trascrizione

Here on the upper floor of the museum, through a series of reconstructions, or dioramas, I will tell you about the different ecosystems of Valtellina and how they change with the seasons. You will rarely have the fortune to encounter these animals in their natural habitat, but after getting to know them better, you will have the tools to identify some clues of their presence during your future excursions in Valtellina.

The first environment I introduce to you is the Forest, as peaceful and quiet in the middle of the day as it is lively and vibrant at dawn and after sunset.

Among the animals in this diorama, a family of roe deer and a young deer stand out.

During a hike, you might come across a young one crouched in the grass. It may appear alone and abandoned, but its mother is actually not far away, keeping an eye on it. Before leaving to find nourishment, she has cleaned its coat to make it 'olfactorily' invisible to predators; she will soon return to nurse it.

To ensure the well-being of the cub, it is essential to resist the temptation to approach it and, most importantly, to touch it! Doing so would leave your scent on its coat, and the mother, no longer recognizing it, would leave without it, dooming it to certain death.

Instead, try to quietly move away as far as possible, so as not to scare neither the young one nor its mother. And if you want to take a photo, make sure you are far enough away not to disturb them - this is why experts always carry binoculars or a telephoto lens!

Respecting the wild nature of these animals is essential for their protection.
